Home Instead Durham has pledged to provide its employees with additional, dedicated dementia training from the Alzheimer’s Society this year.
The commitment follows news that as of June 2022, dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK (ons.gov.uk) with around 900,000 people living with the condition.
With its home care professionals already City & Guilds qualified in dementia training, Home Instead is now expanding the offer of training to all its office employees as well in Durham.
Employees will be invited to participate in Champions in Dementia Care, a bespoke course, developed and delivered by the Alzheimer’s Society. The training aligns with Tier 2 and 3 of Health Education England’s Dementia Training Standards Framework. It will equip Home Instead employees with the enhanced knowledge and skills necessary to support and plan care for clients living with dementia.
“We are overjoyed to be widening our offer of dementia training to encompass our wider teams,” Trudi Jameson, Franchise Owner commented; “This new training acknowledges the prevalence of dementia in the UK and the demand for us as leaders in the home care industry to continue be there every step of the way in supporting those living with dementia.
The Champions in Dementia Care course meets the national standards for dementia training. Those undergoing the course will boost their awareness of issues such as how to respond to distressed behaviour, while ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care.
Right from the first communication with a client enquiry, the Home Instead team will be able to ensure a smooth journey from the care consultation stage and beyond.
