Jennifer first came to Home Instead as a Care Professional in 2018. Despite loving the role, she found that after a year she was struggling to balance her dedication to her clients as well as raising her young family, and therefore sadly made the decision to leave the team for a while. In 2023, we were delighted to hear that she was looking to join our team of Care Professionals again, many of us remembering her and looking forward to welcoming her to Home Instead all over again!

Speaking with Jenny, we learnt why she wanted to come back to the care sector and why she wanted to come back to Home Instead in particular,

“In all my years of working in different sectors and companies, Home Instead has simply just always ‘stuck out’. I feel valued here, I’m not just a number clocking in and out of work.”

When Jenny joined Home Instead back in 2018, what was her first impression?

We felt this to be a really important question to ask. Listening to our Care Professionals enables us to grow, evolve and progress, as well as recognising what we’re good at! For Jenny, the thing about Home Instead that stuck out was “how friendly everyone was, and how they really care about the people we look after”.

What kind of work did Jenny do prior to Home Instead?

“I’ve had lots of varied jobs both in the care sector and in other industries, such as hospitality”. When talking about her introduction to the care sector, Jenny recalled the first care company she worked at before coming to Home Instead where she would just do 20-minute calls, “it wasn’t enough time to care, it wasn’t fair on the clients which is why I could never go back to that kind of care work – this is where Home Instead really show how they care because they recognise that care shouldn’t be done on a timer”.

Home Instead’s calls from an hour long enable our clients to receive this person-centred care, which also means that our caregivers are able to create real bonds with their clients, too.

So, what lead Jenny to leave her role as a caregiver in 2018?

Despite loving her role with us here, Jenny just felt that the “time wasn’t right” before, admitting that she struggled to be there for her young children as well as having a job to care for others in the community, too. Although Home Instead was “always flexible with my hours to give me that work/life balance”, Jenny felt it would be better to take some time away with her young family and “always planned on coming back to Home Instead”.

Well, that time has now come! We are so pleased to welcome Jenny back to the Home Instead family and enable her to continue to do what she loves,

“Visiting people, chatting to them and caring for them is just human nature to me which makes care such an ideal job for me and my personality. It’s so nice to be back working as a Care Professional at Home Instead!”
