A keen football fan cheered on the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium for the first time in 20 years thanks to the support of his home care team.
Roger receives assistance from carers based at Care South at Home’s Bournemouth office team. He is visited by the Care South at Home team four times a day for help with his personal care and assisting him with taking his medication. During one of his visits from the team he spoke about his long-held wish to watch a game at the stadium.
In response, the Care South at Home team organised for Roger to watch the match against Brentford on Saturday 15 March with Adewale Adebayo, Home Care Assistant. Roger normally watches every Cherries game on the TV, but he said that it was extra special to be sat in the stadium as part of the crowd.
Roger said: “It was a great atmosphere. It was lovely. I enjoyed going with Adewale as he knows everything there is to know about football.” Roger’s wife, Jackie, said: “Roger has been supported by Care South at Home for around five months now and they are great. They offer support, kindness and understanding, not just to Roger but also to me as well.”
The special experience was organised as part of an ongoing partnership between Care South and AFC Bournemouth, which enables residents, home care clients and staff to get involved in a range of activities. These can include weekly seated football sessions, meeting players, coffee mornings, and visits to the stadium.
Tracie Gregory, Manager of Care South at Home’s Bournemouth office, said: “We are so pleased that we could enable Roger’s special wish. At Care South at Home, we like to get to know the individual likes and dislikes, dreams and wishes of our clients, and then we try to safely make them happen through our ‘Make a Wish’ initiative. Roger loves to talk about football with Adewale so it was nice for them to attend the game together, which is something that Roger wouldn’t have been able to do without our help.”
