View Full Details of Home Instead (Edinburgh)This experience involved two carers, allowing respite relief for my husband, by making visits am or pm when he was away, over five days. Both carers were very reliable, friendly and approachable, flexible and willing to help. They tackled a variety of ad hoc tasks, around and outside our home, doing their very best to support me.
I am very pleased. Our normal carers (two) know us well and I am very confident about relying on them. Our occasional replacement carers are always good too. The office admin team is always helpful.
Both my husband and I are delighted with the staff member from Home Instead. My husbands needs are attended to by a cheerful person and some light housekeeping duties are completed which helps me enormously. I am also able to be away from the house for a few hours knowing that my husband is safe and being looked after.
Very difficult to judge, as my brother remembers nothing about anything! But from what I've seen, the carers treat him with dignity, respect his wishes, are flexible in terms of tasks, and are really helpful in keeping the household running. I'm very pleased that the same carers come every week. It could be cheaper, but the consistency is worth paying extra for in my brother's case.
My mother has been enabled to continue to live in her flat with support, three days per week, from the carers at Home Instead. The management is excellent and I am kept informed of any last-minute changes due to carers' ill health, or transport issues etc. My mother is fairly stubborn and has lived completely independently until a few years ago when a combination of physical health deterioration and poor short-term memory meant I needed to find additional care to augment what she already has. I have been extremely pleased with the care provided. I have met a number of the caregivers during my visits to Edinburgh and they all have seemed very professional and sympathetic. On a few occasions they have raised concerns about my mother and these have always been passed on to me very rapidly. I recommend Home Instead (Edinburgh).
The care our relative/friend has received from Home Instead is excellent. It is a well-managed and organised service with carers, who are both professional in their approach and very caring and encouraging and friendly. The managing staff are willing to pick up on suggestions and requests and provide a well-managed and reliable professional service. The change in the person receiving the care has been quite wonderful, since the onset in May 2024. I write this review on behalf of his son and his cousin and power of attorney. We all send our appreciation and thanks.
From set-up to almost immediate and necessary changes, the management has been first-class in responding to changing needs. The carers have instantly bonded with Mum and she very much looks forward to their visits.
After almost 4 years of supporting my mum to stay as independent and in control as she is able, I was beginning to find it more of a challenge. It has been a long road and despite many attempts to get help from outside the family Mum just kept saying no. I heard about Home Instead from a friend and decided to give them a go. Mum was very resistant at first but with support and perseverance from the Home Instead team the right home help for Mum was found. Having the patience, kindness and reliability of Mum's home help and the team and having access to notes and support that is tailored to Mum's needs and wishes is really great. Instead of having to justify why we need support and put Mum through assessments, which cause her a lot of distress, we now have support and are building relationships with Mum's home help and the team.
We have recently started using Home Instead for my mother, who is extremely independent. We felt we could use a little bit of help with light household tasks and also some different companionship for Mum. The initial contact was excellent and very inclusive, Mum felt engaged and listened to. Home Instead were careful when matching a suitable companion/carer and they allocated a lovely lady. This is an excellent match. She is caring and helpful while being respectful of Mum's independent nature. Mum enjoys her time with her and acknowledges that she actually helps her independence, as she takes her out when she wants to for small shopping trips or coffee.
Dad receives twice-weekly visits and provides companionship and help with shopping and trips. Our carer is very helpful and provides me with regular updates on how Dad is keeping. At all times she is professional and courteous to Dad and myself. I would definitely recommend Home Instead if you are seeking support for an elderly relative.
Mum can be a challenge to get out of bed never mind the house but a particular member of staff and the team have been brilliant with her. And they achieve the impossible. Mum regularly has outings and fun and someone else to talk to. We get emails and photos to tell us what they've been up to and I know Mum enjoys her time with the particular member of staff, even if she can't remember fully due to Alzheimer's.
I have had Home Instead for over 2 years now and find them helpful in all the tasks they do for me. Especially anything I need in regard to for example getting my blue badge form for renewals done on a smartphone as I don't have a laptop or smartphone, taking me shopping, to appointments and generally helping me to live at home myself. If I need more help in the future, I know will get it. Also, the company have a cheery smile when they arrive on my care day.
Home Instead operationalises very quickly unlike the local authority's own service which has a wait time. Staff are very professional, entirely trustworthy and have the care of vulnerable people at the heart of their service. Staff appear to be very well trained and supported. The cost of the service is very high, not commenting on value as quality is also high but really adds up and exhausts funding quite quickly.
It hasn't been easy getting in-home care for my mum and stepdad. They've resisted the idea that they need help since we first approached Home Instead last Summer. But the arrival of the carer for two lunchtime sessions a week last year has turned that resistance around and, after some negotiation, we now have two supper-time sessions with this carer too. That started last night and before the carer had even left for the evening, Mum phoned me to say how wonderful it had been. Their carer is kind and unassuming and my parents adore her. And I can never quite believe how much she gets through each visit when I read the reports from Home Instead after each session. Thank you to one of the staff for her patience in getting this all set up and a huge thank you (and sigh of relief) to our carer for her professionalism and good humour. Her presence puts our minds at ease so much.
I have been very impressed with your service. Excellent, lovely support, you couldn't have matched me better. 10/10
We have been delighted with the service offered by Home Instead - both in terms of the care and attention given by the staff, and the supporting management of the service. The team has been responsive and professional throughout, and those delivering the service have been friendly, sympathetic and attentive. I would have no hesitation in recommending this service to others.
I couldn't ask for more sympathetic treatment by all the staff. My two main carers are like family now, and help my wife to enjoy life.
My dad has Alzheimer's and the daily visit by the carers provides invaluable additional support and companionship. Home Instead are very proactive in calling me with any concerns and questions the carers have. The overall support provided is excellent.
Our family have been clients of Home Instead for over five years. In all that time, I have found all members of their Edinburgh team to be extremely professional, attentive, sympathetic and very kind. The quality of care provided has been first class, in no small way due to the continuity of the carers who attend. Having heard a few horror stories surrounding the care sector, I feel very fortunate to have been recommended to Home instead.
I would just like to convey our thanks for the ongoing terrific care that is provided by one carer at Home Instead who looks after our mother three days a week. Our Mother has vascular Dementia with Alzheimer's. The carer has a really 'can do' attitude and has got the perfect balance of care, companionship, assertiveness and reliability and is a real asset to the company.
