View Full Details of Home Instead (Ilkley & Skipton)This review covers my experience with Home Instead since I started, 2 years ago. I do have fairly limited demands upon the service and I do understand its limitations. The staff are excellent.
I have now been using Home Instead for over 2 years to help with care of my 91 year old Dad. Throughout they have been exceptional in the services they have provided. The regular reviews have helped tailor the care that is provided to his specific needs. They have been flexible, friendly and efficient.
My dad was a new client. A great deal of time and care was spent finding out about his life, needs and interests. The family were pleased that home care would only offer care in blocks of hours, enabling quality time spent with him. They make Dad breakfast, lunch and an evening meal and ensure that he takes his tablets at the correct time. We were very impressed that new people are always introduced first. The care professionals arrive on time and always ask if there's anything he needs. They are polite and respectful and Dad says 'They take an interest in me. They are friendly and chatty and good company'. We have the peace of mind that he is now eating properly at the right times and taking all his tablets. Home care also provide good personal care e.g. helping my father with his catheter, putting on his compression socks, putting cream on his legs and giving his feet a massage. They will also hoover round while his meal is cooking or pop to the shop if he's run out of something.
The quality of care that Home Instead provide my father is very good. He especially enjoys their ability to take him out and about, such as to the park of the local village, which he would not be able to do without them.
The Home Instead staff are helping me to look after my father in a friendly and kind way. The extra events are lovely opportunities for him to socialise in a supportive environment and are much appreciated!
We approached Home Instead earlier this year, just for some initial support and to get home visits started with a reputable organisation that my parents would accept and trust in their home. We have started with some very generic support, for a couple of hours each week. The team are lovely and incredibly responsive, to the point we have been able to increase visits when needed due to illness.
I was recommended Home Instead by a local healthcare worker. I am delighted I accepted her advice. My mother has 3 different carers each week and she likes them all, their company, their help, and their discretion. It has made living at home (where she wants to be) possible. I appreciate the regular reports received each week of all the visits made by the carers, and also appreciate feedback from the local administrator. Home Instead gives me support and care for my mother and peace of mind for me. I fully recommend the service they provide.
I am very pleased with the card that Mum is having. All the ladies who go in to see Mum are pleasant and helpful. She enjoys their visits. They help her with getting meals ready and washing and ironing they provide Mum with conversation and have offered to take her out as well.
They provide a completely reliable service with very good timekeeping. The carers are always efficient and cheerful and carry out all the tasks asked of them. There have not been any issues or concerns.
It is a great relief to know that Home Instead is visiting Mum regularly so that she isn't so isolated. Home Instead have been so helpful in sorting out Mum's support and suggesting different activities for her to join and enjoy. She says the care professionals are all very kind and thoughtful and like a good chat too!
The two regular carers are absolutely superb. They each have a complete skill range and the initiative to use those skills. They are also delightful people, courteous, friendly yet professional at all times. 20/10 to each one.
The support given by Home Instead to my mother has far exceeded our expectations. On one occasion the care pro found her on the floor and arranged an emergency response, staying until they arrived. The care pros have also attended on an unscheduled occasion when we couldn't reach her on the phone. I would not hesitate to recommend Home Instead to anyone looking to provide a relative with additional safety and support, regardless of how complex their needs.
I honestly couldn’t be more impressed with the support and companionship provided by Home Instead for my mum. Her carer is vibrant, fun, exuberant and just what my mum needs to get out and about and just have some fun. Thank you - you are making such a difference.
The quality of care has been outstanding at every level, from the care professionals themselves to the managers, who have ensured excellent support and communication on a daily basis. The setting up of this provision was detailed and tailored to my mum-in-law's individual needs. The daily feedback via the app has alerted us to issues we might not have otherwise picked up. I cannot recommend highly enough.
Mum has had a daily visit from Home Instead ladies for the last few weeks. Their visits have made a big difference to Mum. Everyone who has visited has been friendly and caring and their visits have helped improve Mum’s low mood. As well as companionship they have helped with all the little things that otherwise would have to wait for my brother and I to visit. They have taken Mum to the shops or brought her shopping and helped Mum with some jobs in her home. As well as chatting with Mum they have given a sympathetic ear when Mum was feeling very low and the kindness of these ladies has been very much appreciated.
I live in Athens, Greece and try to visit Mum every 3 months, but being so far away it is impossible to help with practical things on a daily or weekly basis. The young ladies from Home Instead are such good company for her and have built really good relationships with her. They check what she needs and as she becomes less able to manage are there to help her shower or dress. Unfortunately, Mum has very bad balance and tends to go through periods where she loses her confidence, especially after a fall (even if she doesn't hurt herself) I have filled the freezer and the girls fetch whatever she wants from the freezer on the days she doesn't have a meal delivered. I will be over again in March and can help Mum decide whether she needs to have more help and perhaps amend the checklist. Thank you for helping her stay in the place she chooses to be.
Only been using this company for over 1 week but very happy so far. My mother was initially against the service but is mellowing gradually due to the attitude of the carers she has met. Hope it continues.
Home Instead visit my father daily for an hour and he enjoys them all coming. They adapt their services to his needs and include accompanying him on a short walk, taking him to local appointments, preparing a hot meal or a sandwich meal for later and, most importantly, offering companionship. The carers are all very different personalities but all treat him with respect and courtesy and understanding. They adapt to changes in routine easily and are observant as to what needs doing, like putting washing away etc. There is a regular review of his care needs and I am involved with this at his request.
My mother now receives care four times a day, enabling her to stay in her own home, which is very much what she wants. The carers are, with very few exceptions, attentive, caring and provide the level of care and support that my mother needs. As well as meeting her personal needs they get to know her, cook and do household chores. Where possible she has a core group of carers that she knows and trusts. Obviously, staff move on from time to time and so there are changes, but effort is made to familiarise her with new staff and vice versa. Occasionally there have been carers she has not got on with and when this is mentioned they have been taken off her schedule. In times of emergency, the management team and the carers have stepped up to help, finding more support, and waiting until family members arrive. This is not a cheap service, but it does provide a very good level of care with excellent office backup and so peace of mind for myself and other members of the family.
The standard of care provided by Home Instead is excellent, and both the carers and support staff have provided a top-class service. My mum has been a client for many years, and we have always found the carers and companions to be kind, friendly and approachable. They follow up on things that need doing and suggest ways to manage the care better. We always feel informed, and they carry out regular service reviews. I would gladly recommend Home Instead for their 5-star commitment and service.
