View Full Details of Home Instead (South East Northumberland)Home instead have provided an excellent service for my client which has tangibly improved his quality of life and his wellbeing. The staff keep in regular contact and provide regular reviews to ensure service remain current to client's needs and interests and they are eager to find ways to improve that experience for the person.
Our first entry into the world of carers, what a good choice Home Instead has proved to be. Thorough in their arrangement of our requirements and assimilation of our interests, the delivery of the care we require has been first class. The small team selected to care for my wife have treated her with dignity whilst maintaining a close and friendly relationship, chatting away as they carry out their tasks. We have never been let down by non-attendance and punctuality has been exemplary. Finally, communication with HQ is good, with information and updates flowing freely by either email or telephone.
The visits of Home Instead carers have made a positive difference to my very independent Mum who reluctantly agreed to 'give it a try' last June. Their role is simply to help Mum shower, wash her hair, to get dressed and ready for the day ahead. In the hour they are with her, they have made every effort to get to know Mum and what she is interested in and I overhear them chatting and laughing away. Home Instead only ever sends carers who Mum has met and with whom she feels entirely comfortable. Each one has shown her great dignity, kindness and competence and they are always punctual whatever the traffic or weather. I live some distance away and have really appreciated the written reports I can see online after each visit - it makes me feel reassured and connected. The service thus far has been exemplary and I have no hesitation in recommending Home Instead.
Home Instead provide reliable and thoughtful care for my mother. We get advance notice of the schedule of visitors which means that she knows who she is going to see on any given day. The office staff are always helpful and understanding and we all feel that the care provision is very much tailored to the specific needs of the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. I would not have any hesitation at all in recommending Home Instead to anyone looking for help to stay in their own home.
Home Instead have supported my mother for almost 5 years. They care for her like she is one of their own family. With their support, my mother lives independently in her home. The care professionals are carefully chosen by the office and they observe her wishes about the smallest details. She always knows who will be attending to help with housework, meal prep, trips out or going to appointments. Home Instead liaises with other healthcare professionals e.g. the occupational therapist who provided mobility aids around her home. I live some distance away, it is reassuring to know that Home Instead never miss a visit and if they have any concerns they contact me immediately. Consistently responsive to any requests we have, I can also access the electronic visit notes the care pros make. Home Instead provides peace of mind to both my mother and the family. She considers her care pros as friends and invited the whole Home Instead team and owner to her recent 100th birthday celebrations! I have no hesitation in recommending Home Instead.
Whilst I cannot fault the carers who came to my mum's house for companionship 4 hours per week from Tuesday 16th January 2024 to the 16th February 2024, I feel I must comment on the charges my mum has had to pay in total for only 20 hours actual care. Unfortunately, mum was admitted to hospital on the 17th February was going to be in there a while with a bad UTI infection and was then deemed to need full-time residential nursing care. I had to cancel or terminate the service agreement from 17th February but have had to pay for 30 days care she did not receive through this unplanned hospital/care home admission. So after having paid a £200 registration fee my poor mum has had to pay in total the sum of £1502.00 for 20 hours actual care received. I'm not even going to be paying that amount of money per week for 24-hour nursing care, and that's a rip-off as well. I know I signed the service agreement so have paid what I owe but I just feel my poor mum has been well and truly ripped off.
I am very pleased to have chosen Home Instead. Both initially (all excellent) and also with the recent additional time. Management's response to the urgent extra (more than double my original) time was quick and helpful. Naturally, some of the additional carers are 'good' rather than the totally 'excellent' original team. I hope to refine and improve when possible.
From the initial conversation Home Instead was patient, not pushy. Once I was ready to press the button the team had selected lovely carers to meet my mum who were right first time - all fully up to speed on her situation. Despite this being a huge step for Mum, she has come to look forward to these kind and gentle women coming into her home 3 times a week to help with light housekeeping, meal prep, personal care and trips to the shops and local amenities. My mum trusts them completely over the past 6 months and their companionship means my mum has someone to talk to regularly, reducing her loneliness and growing isolation after my father died. The team are quick to respond to any adjustments I need to make to the care plan. I can monitor all visits via the portal given I live away I know the team will adjust to more complex care as Mum's needs get greater bringing a long-term solution that gives great comfort knowing Mum can stay in the home she loves.
Very friendly, efficient, and reliable. Answer all my needs and accommodate everything that we want. No problem is too big; they will always try and find a solution if need be. Not that there have been many problems!
Staff do everything well, can’t fault them. Don’t have to ask staff to do anything. Friendly, punctual, reliable, tactful and polite. Like a whole set of new friends for my mother-in-law. Well organised, cheerful. Trustworthy.
As with previous reviews, we continued to be extremely satisfied with the service provided by both the Care Professionals and the office staff. We were listened to and requests and concerns were acknowledged and actioned. It was only with a sad heart and reluctance did it became necessary to move into a Care Home as 24/7 care became necessary. Will continue to recommend Home Instead.
Home Instead have been providing a home care service to my mother for some time now. The care they have provided has been exceptional. The carers who visit and look after my mum have been able to develop kind, considerate and friendly support whilst maintaining a professional approach. They have gone out of their way to give additional and very personal support on a number of occasions to my mother outside of their ‘standard’ support and care provision, which has been an incredible help to my mother. I also have the highest of praise for the management and office staff that provide me with support, help and guidance and regular updates on my mother's wellbeing and health. As I live a considerable distance from my mother (circa 300 miles) I don’t get to see her very often this support is invaluable to me personally as it allows me to lead my life without worry. In summary, Home Instead has gone well beyond what I expected. I recommend them without hesitation.
My experience of the staff from Home Instead has been exceptional and outwayed my expectation in their care for Mum. They have got to know and understand her needs, are always kind, caring and professional. Communication within the whole team, myself and Mum, is exceptional.
Home Instead have been providing care for my dad over the last three or so years. He has Alzheimer's and would not be able to live at home without their twice-daily visits. The caregivers help him eat a healthy and balanced diet (increasingly important after a recent diabetes type two diagnosis), maintain a safe and comfortable living situation, and perhaps most valuably provide friendly conversation and company. My brothers and I are confident that Home Instead's team give Dad good quality care, treating him with respect and dignity.
I cant praise Home Instead carers enough. I was anxious about my mother coming to live with me and how her needs would be met due to her immobility and the amount of care she would require, however from the first day having two carers four times a day I have found the carers so friendly and caring, showing so much empathy towards my mam. They always respect her dignity and give her the time she needs to ensure her comfort and well being. My mam can be quite demanding with how she likes things done but her demands have always been met with tolerance and smiles which certainly improves her moods. The carers always turn up on time and never leave early always finding something to do with mam. They have not only been there for my mam but also there for me giving me support and reassurance when I need it. Thank you all so much. Anyone looking for home care can certainly be reassured that Home instead will meet your needs.
I feel that since my visits started. I've grown in confidence and independence. I really enjoy being with my carers and all the chats we have. They are all very professional and I look forward to my visit every day.
Home Instead provided outstanding care for my father-in-law enabling him to live in his own home for the last three years of his life until the age of 99. The carers who looked after him were incredibly thoughtful and sensitive to his personality and needs. The office staff and management of the company are equally kind and efficient: the communication with us over any concerns or changes in carers was always empathetic and effective. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Home Instead Northumberland. The quality and consistency of care was beyond our expectations and in three years of service provision we had no cause for complaint or concern. Perhaps the highest recommendation comes from the mouth of my father-in-law himself who said that the carers were “his friends” and “like family”. This has to be credited to the management of the company in both their recruitment practices and their skill in matching carers to clients. Our experience was a model of how good care should be provided.
I can’t recommend Home Instead enough. My mam has dementia and was hitting the point where she needed much more help to stay at home. I was already caring for her every day, but then my partner and I then caught Covid. I contacted Home Instead, and they were amazing - one of the most difficult but best decisions I’ve made! They got a care plan in place so quickly and took over my mam’s care the next day. They put together a small team, who have all done a great job looking after her; they’ve all built relationships with her and can’t do enough to help. Preparing meals, supporting her to eat, personal care, medication cleaning, literally anything they can do to help, they go over and above. They also provide so much more than just care, often having a sing-song with my mam, which makes her day! The companionship that he has provided has helped her stay at home much longer than we thought she’d be able to. Would absolutely recommend it.
I was so pleased that my parents were able to spend 2 extra years with Home Instead before going into residential care. The staff were professional and caring and helped my mother and father cope with progressive dementia. Care workers cooked meals and cleaned, but were extremely sensitive and always made my mother feel like she was involved (the kitchen had been her domain for 70 years, but dementia meant that she really struggled without support). The office always contacted me immediately if there was a concern, accident or problem, and the care my parents received helped me and the family have peace of mind. That they were able to do this in the face of a pandemic was amazing and they took every care to keep high standards of PPE. The online portal to access daily reports was a particularly useful innovation that allowed me to see how they were doing if I was away. The team not only provided practical support but companionship and friendship that was much appreciated. Thank you!
We want everyone at Home Instead to know that all you have done for our family is so deeply appreciated, and we were so lucky to have found such a fabulous care company. The carers our father had, enabled him to stay in his home and live a happier, more confident life. He was unsure of strangers coming into his life but soon looked forward to their visits. They spent quality time with him, listening to music that he loved, completing crosswords, chatting over ice cream or cream cake, but most importantly - time. They were always happy to go above and beyond, always making sure my father was settled before they left. The office staff are fabulous too, always keeping us informed and answering our phone calls/emails promptly. The carers became so important to our family! We have been so grateful for the wonderful care they gave and how they helped to make his days brighter. As we lived over 6-hours away, this certainly took the pressure off us. Not all heroes wear capes, as they say!
